Settled within a community that is only 2.4 square miles and a population of nearly 14,000 sits Whitefish Bay High School. While Milwaukee grew during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, so did the surrounding communities. To combat overcrowding in local high schools, the Whitefish Bay School board bought fourteen acres of land from the Wisconsin National Guard for $80,000 in 1927 which would cost over $1.1 Million today. After the acquisition of the land in 1927, construction went from 1930 to 1932 and was completed by the star to of the 1932 - 1933 school year. The original school included, twenty six class rooms, laboratories, a library, cafeteria, gymnasium, a school store and an auditorium.school store, and a third story auditorium. The
grounds of the school hosted tennis courts, football and baseball fields, a track and a field house. |

Since the initial construction, the school has had several renovations and additions made that have transformed the school to better assist the needs of the students and community. While the original design focused on the idea of adding new "units" as the community grew and more space in the school would be needed. However on the original building were designed with that idea, later additions would abandon this idea. For instance, in 1948 the Memorial Gymnasium wing was built, housing a new; gym, swimming pool, locker rooms, rifle range, music and home economic class rooms. The high school went under additional renovations in 1956,1967. The school's Theater Wing is currently is undergoing renovations that began in 2010.
